Basic CQB Rifle/Carbine Class

Level 1 - Rifle Marksmanship & Handling

Spring 2012 - Sunday, Apr. 1st.

The Level 1 class will be conducted by Instructor Greg Ferris.    The class will be 5 hours in duration (9 am until 2 pm) with an on-site meal break.  These classes are "not" beginner level classes, you must at least know basic safety and handling procedures.  Prospective students may be required to demonstrate a basic ability to safely handle and shoot their rifle prior to acceptance into the class.  Students may also be required to present valid ID and demonstrate a clear criminal history.

Primary requirements are: 1) enthusiasm, 2) a willingness to experiment and 3) a willingness to learn new skills and overcome challenges.

Students will provide their own quality centerfire semi-automatic rifle/carbine (normally AR-15 or AK-47 or like firearm), 250+ rounds of quality practice ammunition (no reloads, steel jacketed bullets, i.e. Wolf, Herters or similar brand ammo).  If in doubt as to suitability of firearm or ammo please inquire prior to class.

Also required is suitable hearing and eye protection.  Rifles/Carbines may have any brand of laser or heads up system (red dot, trijcon, etc.), if desired, but iron sighting system must be present (optical scopes should be initially removed as this is CQB class not a sniper class).  Students should feel free to have various useful accessories mounted on their firearms (such as: specialty rail forearms, slings, grips, pods, etc.) just don't get carried away as Practicality is the benchmark.  Triggers release weight of less than 3# pull will not be allowed.  Recommend minimum of 3 magazines (more is better).  Options to consider is a carrying case, gear/ammo bag, elbow and knee pads, ground mat, cleaning kit with quality bore rod and any tools for maintenance and lubricants.  

All students should plan to bring sufficient food and beverages (especially water) to sustain them for on-site meal and breaks. Pen/pencil and paper should be considered for note taking.

This class will teach the "how" of effectively employing deadly force with a semi-auto rifle by application of correct handling and marksmanship techniques.  Course format will include, but not be limited to, training for daytime and night (low light and artificial light) shooting, training in the various styles of position shooting and tactical/stress skills.  There will be in-depth discussions, experimentation in and practice of:  rifle marksmanship techniques, managing psychological and physical influences on marksmanship during deadly force incidents,  evaluation of factors in choosing appropriate firearm and ammunition, proper rifle handling techniques and mental mind set training.

Six (6) student minimum is required per class date.  Enrollment is based on first paid (in full) is first served.  Enrollment fee of $75.00/class is NON-REFUNDABLE.  (Allowance to attend a future class may be arranged if cancellation made in time to fill vacated slot.)

Level 2 - Rifle Advanced Marksmanship & Tactics

                                                  Spring 2012 - Sunday, Apr. 7th.

Classes are conducted by Instructor Greg Ferris.    The class is 5 hours in duration (4:30 pm to 9:30 pm) with one meal break. Successful Completion of Level 1 is a required prerequisites for prospective Level 2 students.

As in Level 1 class the primary requirements are enthusiasm, a willingness to experiment, to learn new skills and overcome challenges.

 Students will provide their own quality centerfire semi-automatic rifle/carbine (normally AR-15 or AK-47 or like firearm), 250+ rounds of quality practice ammunition (no reloads, steel jacketed bullets, i.e. Wolf, Herters or similar brand ammo).  If in doubt as to suitability of firearm or ammo please inquire prior to class.

This class will have "Night Fire Exercises" so bring hand held flashlight and clear glasses.  Gun mounted lasers, tritium night sights or mounted flashlights are optional.

The Scenario based course format will include, but not be limited to additional training in the various styles of position shooting and tactical/stress skills.  There will be more in-depth discussions, lecture, review and practice of: advanced marksmanship techniques, tactical principles and consideration in deadly force encounters, civil and criminal legal considerations, psychological and physical influences in deadly force incidents, as well as many of factors such as rifle and caliber/ammunition suitability, proper rifle handling techniques and mental mind set training. The primary focus of this class will be the practical application of skills learned in Level 1 class and the use of proper mental mindset under various situational events.  Students' actions and reasoning skills will be analyzed and constructively critiqued for positive reinforcement.
