Alpha-Mike Shooters (IPSC)
The Alpha-Mike Shooting Club is an affiliate of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC). Of all the clubs shooting at Cedar Ridge Range this one has, by far, the largest group of "steely nerved, glint eyed" competitors. These folks can shoot!! Matches are set with IPSC guidelines but can involve steel targets or paper targets with a big mixture of shooter movement and plenty of rounds expended. Matches are held on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Matches usually consist of 5 different stages with scoring based on quality of hits versus time used. IPSC categories (based on firearm set-up) apply. Firearms required are centerfire, big-bore with power minimums for ammunition. This particular IPSC club is very "laid back" in style (credit to ramrod Don Hardy) with the attention on safety and fun. New IPSC shooters and novice shooters, in general, will have little problem learning the ropes at this club as the more experienced shooters will gladly provide guidance and shooting tips.

Alamo Sport Shooting Club (A.S.S.C.)
The ASSC (Alamo Sport Shooting Club) was founded in 1983 in response to the demand for Action Style Shooting Competitions with Large Bore Handguns (both Semi-Auto and Revolver). This exciting new style of shooting required competitors to quickly draw from a holster and engage a variety of targets at different angles, distances and positions while using full power ammunition to simulate defensive shooting. During the early years of action shooting much was learned about firearms, ammunition and equipment as well as different scoring formats and reactive targets. Early influences were the now famous Bianchi Cup match and the Steel Challenge match. Supreme accuracy no longer was the ultimate goal, as required in the fading disciplines of NRA Bullseye and PPC. Function of the competitive handgun grew in importance as the speed of engagement greatly influenced scoring. Action shooting techniques and skills were developed and refined to take advantage of new equipment and gunsmithing advances, giving growth to numerous action shooting styles such as IPSC, IDPA, Speed Steel, Moving Targets, Bowling Pins, etc. Happily, the ASSC was present to witness and try all these wonderful developments in handgun competition formats and today still embodies the original premise of challenging the shooter at matches with the best that is offered by each discipline. The ASSC is a great entry level club since it provides a venue to test all the various disciplines while allowing the competitor to find his niche. The ASSC has helped develop and nurture many fine shooters in past years including a 2 time world champion. Many ASSC members have gone on to specialize in others disciplines with great success. Matches held by the ASSC, at present, still encourage competitors to broaden their shooting repertoire by allowing both revolver and semi-autos to compete. Competitors are also classed according to their demonstrated skill levels to allow them to compete on an equal level with like skilled shooters. Though club membership is relatively small (compared to sanctioned disciplines) this allows for a very personal atmosphere and comaradrie where the novice can learn and flourish successfully. Come join them on match day, 1st Sunday of each month, and bring whatever big bore handgun you own. Equipment requirements are minimal (handgun, ammo, belt, holster, few extra mags/speedloaders, eye and ear protection) and what you don't own first time out usually can be loaned to you by the experienced members. See you on the firing line!

Texas Steel Shooters
The Texas Steel club was formed to introduce and allow handgun action shooters to compete in the Speed Steel shooting discipline as defined by the Steel Challenge National Tournament. In this handgun discipline shooters engage a variety of arrays of different shaped and varied distance steel plates. Each particular stage has its own challenges but the object is to hit every plate in the fastest time possible. A competitors score is based solely on time used (least amount wins). Texas Steel matches are held the 2nd Saturday of each month. The match consists of 5 stages with 5 runs per stage by each competitor. Best 3 runs are scored and averaged. Competitor categories (based on firearm and caliber)are: Open, Limited, Revolver, IDPA and .22 cal. USPSA rules govern. All competitors must sign a liability release form at registration. Junior shooters are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult who assumes all liability responsibilities. New attendees will be given safety orientation and advised on format. Once each year a special match is held, the TEXAS STEEL CHAMPIONSHIPS, with the winner being proclaimed the King of Steel.

Sportsman Team Challenge

The STC format is a 3 or 2 shooter team format. It is a highly specialized discipline requiring team members to work together and enact a strategy to achieve a good score. It requires that team members shoot courses in shotgun, rimfire rifle (offhand), and action/precision handgun (big bore and rimfire). This is a highly entertaining game for shooter and spectator alike as all targets are reactive when hit (clays for shotgun and falling steel for rifle/handgun). Since all component stages of a match have time restrictions based on shooters class (skill) the shooting action can get both frantic and comical as team members attempt to achieve strategy goals before the clock runs out. If this sounds like fun, AND IT IS FUN, then give us a call and we will be happy to introduce you to the game and the equipment. New teams are continually forming so we are always looking for fresh faces to come play. Tournament events is held on an irregular basis so call for schedule.
