Principles of Advanced Handgun Marksmanship and Tactics Class

Class Fee  -  $125.00  (Cash or Check Only)      (NEXT CLASS - Fall of 2008)

Call for Information / Date of Next Class Scheduled at Cedar Ridge Range (830) 980-4424.  Law Enforcement or Private Groups meeting minimum student requirements may call to arrange Private Scheduling for their convenience.

Classes are conducted by Instructor Greg Ferris.  The class is 10 hours in duration (usually 10 am to 10 pm) with two meal breaks.  The class is intended to be an intermediate level class.  Prospective students may be required to demonstrate a basic ability to safely handle and shoot their handgun prior to acceptance into the class.   Students may also be required to present valid ID and demonstrate a clear criminal history.

Primary requirements are enthusiasm, a willingness to experiment, to learn new skills and overcome challenges.  Students will provide their own quality big bore handgun (semi-auto and/or revolver ), 350+ rounds of quality practice ammunition (no reloads or military surplus) and 50 rounds of "true" (bet your life on it) defense quality ammo for each firearm, suitable hearing and eye protection (daylight and low light glasses) holster and belt and suitable hand held flashlight.  Handgun may have laser or mount flashlight system also, if desired.  Students should plan to bring sufficient food and beverages (especially water) to sustain them for on-site meals and breaks. Pen/pencil and paper should be considered for notetaking.

     Course format will include, but not be limited to, training in daytime and night (low light and artificial light) shooting, training in the various styles of position shooting and tactical/stress skills.  There will be in-depth discussions, lecture and practice of: advanced marksmanship techniques, tactical principles and consideration in deadly force encounters, civil and criminal legal considerations, psychological and physical influences in deadly force incidents, as well as many of factors such as handgun and ammunition suitability, proper handgun handling techniques and mental mind set training.

Six (6) student minimum is required per class date.  Enrollment is based on first paid (in full ) is first served.  Enrollment fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.  (Allowance to attend a future class may be arranged if cancellation made in time to fill vacated slot.)

 

Texas Concealed Carry Certification Class  - New Applicants and Renewals

SPECIAL NOTICE:   No classes are being currently scheduled.  If you can arrange to schedule a minimum of at least 6 students (maximum 20), prepaid,  we will be happy to schedule a class for you at your convenience.  We will also conduct a class for smaller groups or individuals willing to pay the base fee.  Call for details.

Official Certification Course for Texas - Instructor: Greg Ferris  #02517     

Class Lecture and Range Qualification  - same day.  10 hour (all day) course for new applicants, 4+ (half day) for renewal applicants.  

New Applicant Fee:  $125.00

Renewal Applicant Fee: $45.00

Fees Include: Texas Certificate of Proficiency, test forms, target frame and official target and range time.  We will provide CHL booklet, hearing and eye protection (if you don't have your own).  WE DO NOT PROVIDE:  Passport photos, fingerprinting service, firearms or ammunition!  Ammunition is available for sale, if needed, for common calibers.  

Course Subject Matter:  State required:  Non-Violent Dispute Resolution, Deadly force laws (Chapter 9 - Texas Penal Code), Safe Storage of Firearms and Tests on:  Handgun Qualification and Proficiency and Lecture Subjects

Additional Subject Matter:  Firearms Safety and Handling Techniques, Ammunition Performance and Human Physiology with regard to Terminal Ballistics, Marksmanship Fundamentals, Dynamics and Psychology of Armed Encounters, Basic Adversarial Psychology, Surviving the Legal System (how it "really" works), Basic Tactics and Responsibilities of the Armed Citizen.

 

Individual Private Instruction

Private Instruction is given by Instructor Greg Ferris (see Credentials)

Private instruction for individuals available in: Basic Handgun, Defensive Handgun or most Competition Handgun Disciplines (Bullseye, Action, Speed, etc.)

Private instruction for individuals available in: Basic Shotgun, Defensive Shotgun or Competition Shotgun (Skeet, 5 Stand or Sporting Clays)

Private instruction for individuals available in: Basic Rifle

Instruction Fees:  $50.00/hour plus target/range fee
